Boards, Bikes and Brushes: Chilton Young People Community Project

The Chilton Miners Welfare Ground Trust has received a funding grant from Banks Community Fund, reports Sue Reece, which will provide the young people of Chilton with an opportunity to participate in a series of bike and skateboard workshops and coaching sessions.

There’s also an opportunity to work with a professional street artist to paint the skate and cycle park at the Charlie Wayman Football Field and to join a membership club that will support ongoing development through organised activities and events. More news on that coming soon!

The aim of the project is to reduce the risk of young people disengaging due to the lack of opportunities to participate in activities that they are interested in and consequently fall into patterns that lead to anti-social behaviour. By providing focused workshops which develop a sense of ownership and pride in their community and community assets, it will provide positive outcomes for both individuals involved and the wider community.

The Banks Group have funded the first phase of the 3-stage project, which will initially focus on raising public awareness and the engagement of the young people, their families, carers and the wider community to the value of organised sports and recreation, as opposed to moving towards alternatives such as illegal offroad bikes.

RPM Displays will deliver a number of bike trails display sessions at the Chilton Show on the 30 August, followed by workshops and coaching session on bikes and skateboards.

The Chilton Miners Welfare Trust is delighted to have received support from Banks Group to kickstart the project which was identified as one of the priority areas to address as part of the Neighbourhood Plan consultations and is looking to secure further match funding to deliver the future elements for our young people.
